 Sri Lanka failed to win a medal in both the men's and women's events of the 400m Meyvallur events at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Both Kalinga Kumarage and Nadeesha Ramanayake, who were expected to win medals for Sri Lanka, failed to match the speed of the athletes from Bahrain, China, Japan and Saudi Arabia.


Nadeesha Ramanayake finished 5th in the women's 400m event on Saturday evening with a time of 53.72 seconds.

Aruna Darshana and Kalinga Kumarage, who participated in the men's 400m event, secured 6th and 7th positions respectively.

Aruna Darshana completed the 400m race in 46.09 seconds and Kalinga Kumarage in 46.22 seconds.

All three Sri Lankan contestants recorded worst times to match their best times.

In the women's 400m race, Bahrain's Adekoya Oluwakemi Mujidad (50.66sec) won the gold medal, Salwa Eid Nasser (50.92sec) the silver medal and Malaysia's Sherin Samson Vallaboy (52.58sec) the bronze medal.

India's Mishra Aishwarya Kailash (53.50 sec) finished 4th.
In the men's 400m event,SaudiArabia's Yusef Ahmad Mazrahi (45.55 sec) won the gold medal, while Japan's Kentaro Sato (45.57 sec) and Bahrain's Yusuf Abbas Ali (45.65 sec) won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

Another Japanese player Fuuka Sato (45.70 sec.) was 4th and Indian player Mohammad Ajmal Wariyathodi (45.97 sec.) was 5th.

Kayantika Abhesekara will participate in the women's 1500m race to be held this evening. But only two of her rivals have better time scores than Kayantika. However, only if Kayantika puts in more effort will she be able to win a medal.
